Observing Geospatial Technology and Social Media in Sustainability in a Whole new light

Before taking GEO213- GIS in Social Sciences, I would have never understood the involvement of Geospatial technology in the roles of social media and societal issues. Our class project which focuses on sustainability and how the university, students, community members and faculty comes together to improve our impact of the environment. Sustainability is a very huge discussion in our society and is deemed a important one.

Sustainablity in Other Majors - Tatum Enders

The entire purpose of this website is to make students that are attending West Chester University, the professors, and everyone in the surrounding area aware of the steps that West Chester is taking to become a more sustainable place as well as showcase the incredible things that our students are capable of. I think that this is something to be applauded and I also think that at the university this step is underrated. In my opinion there are a lot of people that have put a lot of time into things like creating this website, creating the maps, and even the simple steps like mapping the trash cans. If I were not currently taking GEO 213, would I even be aware that things like this are going on at the university? I like to think that I read the emails that come through our school account and try to stay up to date, but I also believe that I would have no clue that all of this was going on if I were not taking the class. I am currently a Management major and we have many lectures on being responsible business people and taking the steps to a sustainable workplace, yet here it is in front of us, and we are barely recognizing this. I think that a project like this would be an excellent way to cross disciplines and get different majors working together. I also believe that projects like this would be good for different majors and different areas to look at together because they could bring different things to the table. A geography major might look at this project completely different than a marketing or management major might. All in all I think that this is an excellent project to a be a part of and will definitely be something to show to potential employers. Sustainablity is our future and West Chester University is taking steps to better its future.
Welcome to the WCU Sustainability Blog! This is the blog for the sustainability project at West Chester University of Pennslyvania. The goal of this project is to provide examples of how social media can be used to promote sustainability.
